ASOIAF is one of my newest fandoms, and like many of my newest fandoms, it was introduced to me by the excellent ocelotofdoom. Before she lent me the first book this past summer, all I knew of it was the characters I'd seen played at hogwarts_hocus, Tyrion and Brienne, and even then I didn't know much. I also knew from f!s that there were gay dudes in the show, but that was about the extent of my knowledge. I wasn't sure reading the first few chapters if I'd like it or not, but I'd say about the time we got to Daenerys, I was hooked. I stayed up late several nights reading it, and I even cried when Khal Drogo died - which may not seem like a big deal until you realize that I don't cry at fiction basically ever. And then at some point I figured out how to get the show online, and then I bought the series box set, and then, well, I was off.

So why do I like it so much? I'd say it's gotta be the characters. I'm a sucker for series with loads and loads of characters, and, well, ASOIAF is kind of the poster boy for that trope. There's so many, and you end up caring about all of them, for good or ill. Also, although I'm not much for politics, the political intrigue in the series turned out to, ahem, intrigue me. Plus I want to know who's going to be king of Westeros. I was rooting for Renly, but, uh, yeah. So. THE KING IN THE NORTH! (I am a little over halfway through Clash of Kings right now btw, please mark spoilers if you comment. @_@)

I feel like I should be saying more but I dunno man. I just. I love everything about this series okay. ;_;

Favorite character: It jumped around a lot early on, but I think I've pretty solidly settled on Tyrion for now. He's witty, cute, and one of the only ones with a moral compass! What more could you ask for? I also really enjoy Arya and Varys.

Top 5 hot guys: Okay let's do this. TV show versions, natch.

They shift order sometimes, but this is my top 5. For now, anyway.

OTP: Jon/Sam. I have such a weakness for pairings where it is two dudes who are best friends and also secretly pining for each other. (THEY ARE SECRETLY PINING FOR EACH OTHER OKAY) Sadly no one else ships it because everyone ships SanSan instead. I also like Renly/Loras because yaoi fangirl, and Renly/Loras/Margaery because canon-ish threesome. Oh, and Littlefinger/Varys. Textbook kismeses right there. ♠

Thanks for getting me into this. I think we've basically ended up with the same taste in characters. I'm rooting for the king in the north too, unless Tyrion overthrows Cersei (which it seems like he might be planning on?)

Sadly, Tyrion has no claim. So it would be regent Tyrion, who happens to be ignoring whatever the king is saying and possibly holding him prisoner.
