16. Code Geass



I started watching Code Geass about three episodes in when it was being shown on Adult Swim, mainly because it was on after Bleach, and I liked Bleach. But obviously, I kept watching after that episode, and it grew into a respectable-sized fandom of mine on its own. It wasn't the mechs that drew me in, because mecha stuff on the whole bores me, and it wasn't the politics or war, because I can never follow that sort of thing. So it had to have been, you guessed it, the characters. Partially dem character designs (CLAMP ilu), and partially, of course, their personalities and interactions. I was especially taken by Lelouch; I was more or less fresh out of Death Note and liked the idea as him as a less crazy/evil and more out-of-shape Light. I also enjoyed his struggle to avoid getting found out as Zero, where he was mainly flying by the seat of his pants when things came up that threatened to compromise his identity, but it all managed to work out anyway. The show's tone was a draw too, at least at first; I like how it balanced the seriousness of battle with the lightness of the school scenes, the crowner of which had to be the cat episode. And right, I almost forgot, but the supernatural element played a big part in my interest too too. What would Lelouch geass someone to do next, and how would he use his power to work to his advantage? He would find a way. He is Lelouch.

However, although I thought of Code Geass as a big fandom of mine at the time, looking back I see it really wasn't one of the huge ones. I know CG had all kinds of crazy fandom presence at the time it was being broadcast, and I wasn't really a part of that. I wasn't very social about Code Geass; I mostly just watched on my own. Also, I kind of never watched R2. I just got spoiled for everything by the internet instead. Whoops. @_@ Still, it seems pretty depressing, so maybe that was for the best. I do regret missing Spinzaku though. Oh well.

Also the first opening theme remains awesome. First ending theme's pretty cool too. :D And I still don't understand how this = British and this = Japanese. :P

Hottest guy: Lloyd, because science guy with glasses. See also: Szayel. I had a type okay ._.;; Second place is Clovis, of course. Dang yo.

OTP: SuzaLulu, because at some point you've gotta accept that it's canon. Fun fact: my Code Geass folder contains only two subfolders, Lloyd and SuzaLulu. :B I also ship That One Girl In The Cat Episode Who Was Lesbian For Milly/Milly.

Haha! Nice timing. Tree's been wanting to scanlate stuff, so we were looking for relatively recent anime with a sizable fanbase and a shippable gay pairing. We somehow forgot about this one until a day or two ago XD I've seen up through most of R2, but Tree hasn't seen almost any of it (though he knows about the memes that came from it).

I ship Nina/table.

Oh Code Geass, you and your ridiculousness.

I'm gonna be shallow and admit that I mostly watched R2 for certain characters, but it was highly entertaining because it was such a trainwreck. While it was airing was one of the best fandom experiences I've had, with Kuroshitsuji 2 in second place LOL.
