So, last post has a happy ending! I emailed my teacher, and she let me use her computer yesterday afternoon. Her Garage Band turned out to hate me too, but she turned out to have the old version of iMovie, so with the help of that, a handheld recording device, and a lot of staying up late last night, I finished the project! :D Presented it in class this morning, and people seemed to like it. I ended up being actually pretty darn proud of it myself. So. :D

(Also, the speaker seems to have righted itself somehow, at least well enough that I'm not complaining. :B)

ALSO I got the grade back for that oral I posted about a couple weeks ago. Turns out I got a 100. o_O I didn't even think one could get a 100 on an oral. But first time for everything, I guess. :D

Right now despite these successes I am still kind of sad because my favorite class with my favorite teacher ended today. :( To take my mind off it, and to celebrate finally uploading all my CDs (I've been procrastinating since September), I am going to do this meme that I stole from [livejournal.com profile] fujicori. Let's see how many of the 194 new songs are on it. :D

Rules:
Step 1: Put your MP3 player on random
Step 2: Post the first line or so from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly. (Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!)

Ahah... Of course xD;; I just thought I recognized it from one of their songs, but I guess not.

I pretty much know "kak," but some creative poking in my translator yielded:
как узор на огне, с ново прошлое or "as pattern on the fire, the newly past" and I can't figure the last word out. Russian's a bit difficult to figure out when romanized by sound alone, because "o" can sound like "a" if it's unstressed, and a few other letters have similar sounds under different circumstances. I can tell you that "ogne" (огне) is "fire," though XD (unless it's the plural form, огни, that's being said. I've no clue from the romanization.)

Maybe one of their songs is similar! But yeah, for one thing, this is Austrian German. Not sure what the differences are, but there you go.

The website I got the lyrics from has "like a pattern on a window, the past is near again", so yeah, you're pretty good. :D Unfortunately, it didn't have the Cyrillic, though I can try poking around some more.

Ah! Window is "akno" (акно), the prepositional case being "okne" (окне), so "na okne" is "on (the) window."

Austrian German is a different dialect, I think like how British English is different from American English? Generally understandable both ways, but they are distinct in their sound.

Hurr durr trusting the internet. :P

That makes sense. Like, they have different words for some things. *goes off to research the differences*

Also, I realized that the last word I was looking at was from the line above the Russian one. "Rjadam" should be "Ryadam," because "rjadam" leads me to жадам/жадом which means "by the jade" or "to the jade," where "ryadam" is рядом and means "next."

In Cyrillic, I think it should be: как узор на окне, с нова прошлое рядом, though the translation I get out of that is strange. I've no clue. I could be wrong, but that at least makes some sense with what you've found as the translation xD

Found the Cyrillic lyrics. If they're correct, they match yours (except for having снова as one word, which I don't know if it changes anything). So yes, Russian skills! :D

[identity profile] cykotyks.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
...it does, actually XD I just remember "s uma" being two words (which means "going insane," btw) so I thought "snova" would be, too. Derp. The translation is a bit more readable now: "as pattern on the window, the again past next" (my translator has problems with lyrical sentences, I think XD)

Oh whoops just saw your edit. So the internet lied to me only partially! Will wonders never cease.

[identity profile] cykotyks.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Only partially XD It would've been one thing if "ogne" hadn't been a word, but it means "fire," so I didn't think to try the "g" as a "k" (letters in Russian end up softened sometimes, like they do in English)
