(no subject)

Yesterday got worse, ish. I didn't have any homework for today, so I thought I would get start on my homework for tomorrow, but instead I internetted and browsed fandomsecrets all night.

The latter turned out to be not such a great decision, because according to anons there I am a pervert and a troll for being over the age of 10 and liking ponies. I'm sorry I can't control my age okay. :[ This is why I don't like internet arguments. They weren't even talking to me specifically and it still made me really depressed. I know it is a dumb thing to get depressed over, but I hate being made fun of for liking things targeted towards kids, especially when it is things like MLP which are meant to appeal to multiple ages. x_x That C.S. Lewis quote helps some, but... still.

I guess to make myself feel better I will start a 25 day song meme, which I also stole from [livejournal.com profile] quadruplify because I am the master of stealing things from [livejournal.com profile] quadruplify.

DAY 01: A song from your childhood.
the irony

I'm not sure what time period "childhood" covers here, but I'm going way back. This was my first ever favorite song:

...I never knew what Peter, Paul and Mary looked like until now. Those are some attractive hippies.

Closely followed by this song, which of course I can only find in cover version. The internet isn't helping me locate the original tape it was on either, which is depressing. I hope we still have them at home. :c

My original instinct here was to post a Raffi song, but dang it there are just so many good ones on account of Raffi is amazing. Here, have a concert where you can hear a bunch of them. Because. Raffi. ♥

Me, like childish things? Completely baseless accusation.

Pff, I recently started getting into MLP:FiM and I'm pretty sure I'm older than you (23 in June). Don't let the haters at fandomsecrets get you down, girl. You don't have to justify yourself to these people.

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think you are older than me. :P Thanks, man. I think it helped to be reminded of that. It's just hard not to let this stuff affect me, but I'm trying. :)

Oh man, I had a PP&M CD when I was young, and I friggin' loved their songs XD They had some really wacky ones, too! I think the only thing I had that topped my love for them was my poor Kenny Loggins tape with "The Last Unicorn" on it - I'd set my stereo to play it as I was falling asleep like every night. (The plan usually backfired though because when my stereo hit the end of a tape, it would stop with a loud K-THUNK that usually woke me up XD)

I saw that argument on f!s - I'm pretty sure that anon was trollin'. God forbid adults enjoy children's shows, amirite? We were often around when Tree's little sister would get to watch TV, and half the shows she watched were actually fairly entertaining. I think a lot of kids' shows now try to throw a bone to the adults that're sometimes roped into watching with the kid. Plus, they get more viewers that way. And the shipping thing is just what people do. I don't know why that person is on f!s if they think all shippers are perverts, because let's face it, many of the shippers are above the target audience of the shows they're shipping from.

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
That is so cool man. I... never knew any of their songs other than this one, actually. .__.;; I probably should listen to some. What was the CD you had? This may be worth investing in.
(Also do you read Hyperbole and a Half, because if you do not I am required to link the Kenny Loggins post.)

I hope you're right about the trolling. :x There actually are people who think like that, is the problem. But I agree that a lot of kids' shows are really darn good, especially today's. (Phineas and Ferb and Adventure Time come to mind.) Also you are right, the shipping comment was dumb. Especially when there's romance/attraction in the source material, I don't think you can really call anyone out on shipping stuff. :P Thanks, man.

"Peter, Paul, and Mommy, Too!" And yes, I read that - that post was hilarious XD;

Adventure Time is like, meme status, isn't it? The only reason I can think that somebody would be okay with adults liking AT and not MLP is because MLP is aimed at girls, so obviously it's inferior to Manry™ shows like AT /eyeroll. People are dumb. Try not to let 'em get to you ^^

Daaang. I am seriously considering buying this. :|a

Yeah, okay, wow, good point there. Double standards are so much fun. :| Not that MLP isn't also meant to appeal to guys of course not. *sigh* Thanks, man. I try, but it is hard.

I don't understand the hate for being above a certain age and liking kids' shows. Sometimes, it feels like a lot of people in fandom would benefit from sitting in on a kindergarten class about getting along (amusingly, the ones who consider themselves So High And Mightily Above childish things). Different strokes for different folks, right? Yours just happens to not be the same as theirs and that's okay. (I never read threads on f!s... I do really poorly with wank because I want to help people get along/undo miscommunications.)

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
For real, man. Being an adult is not the same thing as being a jerk to everyone. :| If people would like and let like then everyone's life would be a lot easier. Also, I am the same way about wank. I almost never get involved, but lately stuff has been springing up around me and it's... disheartening. :x

EEEEE THAT SONG. That was my first favorite song ever (EDIT: and I just noticed the part where you said like the exact same thing omg we were psychic for each other before we even met). My dad had a tape of it and would play it every day in the car on the way to preschool. :D

And I've noticed the opposite trend...enjoying "little kid" things is more quirky than dorky nowadays. However, F!S is highly subject to the GIFT, so they're as liable as not to make fun of people for liking bagels.

Awwwww yes. TYMA AND VETHIE CONFIRMED FOR SAME PERSON :D

I think it is more well-received IRL, especially in college. (Case in point. (http://www.awkwardzombie.com/comic1-032910.php)) But f!s is... I don't know. They used to be pretty good about this stuff but now they are jerks. x_x They had better not make fun of people for liking bagels though. Some things are sacred.

Ugh, F!S. The trolls over there have gotten so loud and arrogant that almost all the rational people have been driven away and stopped commenting. And yeah, I get depressed by comments like that even when they're not directed at me, and the stupidity over there has made me say stupid shit as well, and just......UGH. DX That, and the fact that it's all the same stuff posted over and over again, is why I don't regret leaving. (I mean, they were always pretty bad, but it's really gone downhill lately.)

Sorry, I just needed to vent about that. You're absolutely right -- no reason to feel ashamed about it at all. Take it from me -- I'm almost convinced that Avatar is a far better show than most shows intended for adults out there. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
For real, man. I hadn't been noticing it that much until recently, but... yeah. If I didn't care so much about the times when people are actually cool, and also weren't slightly addicted, I would quit too. :( But good on you, mate.

Also yes, I can't believe I didn't think of Avatar, but it is an amazing show. *_* But I guess again it is not a girls' show so it gets a pass or something, idek man. :|
