So this thread over on
ffrantsanon is making me feel really guilty about referring to Grell as a guy.
I think for me it probably boils down to that I am biased and like thinking of him (her?) as a guy better and also I am used to it. But I'm not sure why everyone else in the fandom does it. Like, is there a good reason we're not calling Grell by female pronouns? :\ *so conflicted*

Don't really mind what pronouns people use, mostly because I'm not sure if Grell is actually supposed to be transgender in canon or just a flaming homosexual so far over the rainbow Oz is just a speck in the distance. I think in the manga the former interpretation was intended, as a complement to Madame Red (a woman in a man's profession, who can't have children, and who had a burning unrequited love for Ciel's father--Sebastian was made to look like Lord Phantomhive). The anime sort of mangled that as far as I know?

(Anonymous) 2010-06-03 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)I looked over the thread you linked. It truly appears that those people are insecure and only looking for a reason to be offended because of their own issues.
You are not doing something wrong and have nothing to feel guilty over.

When writing from his perspective I use female pronouns.
Yes, I am this far behind on my flist.
You don't need to feel guilty, but using female pronouns for our favorite chainsaw-wielding fail!butler might be easier to get used to than you think. (Don't we always joke about being lesbians anyway?)
Also, this isn't quite relevant, but have an article about gender-neutral pronouns 'cause it's cool.
Re: Yes, I am this far behind on my flist.
I was really big into gender-neutral pronouns a few years ago but they just got too confusing. :P So now I just use the singular "they". It has the added bonus of annoying people who think people should not use the singular "they". :D
