Happy Fourth of July and belated Canada Day, everyone! :D

[Error: unknown template qotd]
Probably. I don't remember.

Saw Chicago (the movie) the other day. I knew I'd been missing out by not having seen it before. Amazing, amazing movie. I love the decision to have the songs all be dream sequences - it allows for some awesome elaborate staging, and the songs themselves have this hypnotic quality that fits with that and with the whole unsettling feel of it. Basically, really good movie. Also Queen Latifah is hot, my god. *straight, really*

Now it's time for me to make some observations I've picked up recently about characters and Japanese pronouns.
- these got long )
- And the thing that inspired me to look up a few of these was the Homestuck Japanese translation project. Sooooo coooool man. It's not very far along yet, but check out the character pages to see how their pronouns and typing quirks are being translated. A couple highlights: each of the kids uses a different one of the four basic pronouns; Terezi's 413 thing translates perfectly due to the Japanese love of numerical wordplay (and her laugh becomes 1111, or "hihihihi"); and Nepeta calls herself "Nepeta-chan", which is adorable. Seriously, check it out. :D

One day I will make a list of every character in my favorite Japanese media and the pronouns they all use. :|a

Day 15: A character you’d be best friends with. )

Day 16: A character you would not get along with. )

No picspams today either. :( Too many characters, sorry. Not sure how I would go about it. Though if you have an idea you can let me know.

Four days till Connecticon!

Saw two awesome movies in the past few days. The first was Summer Wars, which was amazing and touching (I actually cried, which... doesn't happen often). Despite what people say, it really isn't all that similar to Our War Game, apart from the ideas of a rogue AI and impending missiles. It came off as more of a homage than anything. I'm actually planning to get the DVD (and I don't own many DVDs either), if only to see how the dub came out. In conclusion, watch this movie. :B

The second was Atlantis: The Lost Empire, which I've been meaning to watch for forever. It turned out to be another one of those that I should have seen back when it came out, because I found myself being very fond of it. The characters! ♥ I found I could ignore the plot holes, but I did come out thinking that it should have been longer for the sake of character development. If we got to see more of the characters' interactions and growing friendships, I think it would have been a lot more powerful. And Milo should have totally gotten with Audrey. (Also, yeah, huge crush on Milo. He's not the trope picture for Adorkable for nothing. A socially awkward linguist with the voice of Marty McFly, come on, that's not fair.)

Also this meme's been kicking around the flist.

You know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out. :)

My answers are here! )

Also! If any of you guys have an OC that you want icons of, [livejournal.com profile] djinni is doing an icon day again. The art's really cute and tipping is completely optional - and despite the fact that most people request animals, he draws humans just fine too. It closes tomorrow, so if you want to request, do it soon! :D

Hello to new friends [livejournal.com profile] atrypical, [livejournal.com profile] ember_reignited, [livejournal.com profile] graceful_vanity, [livejournal.com profile] katkatrahrahrah, [livejournal.com profile] meganubunny, and [livejournal.com profile] millimole! Make yourselves at home~

TO EVERYONE ELSE (and to you guys too in future), I am sorry for not posting on here/responding to memes/doing much except the occasional comment a lot lately. :( Part of it is that I have had way too much homework, but part of it is that I am just very terrible at sitting down and writing things. I am so sorry. x_x

I have not forgotten those memes, though. Even the ones from a while back. I will respond to them if it kills me and I will post here when I do. But... just please consider this an apology to everyone for not being a good internet friend. I am really sorry.

So now of course I will do a meme real quick. Flickr meme whee )

Now that that is done I will talk about my life briefly. Was back at home for break. It was fun. I got to see most of my friends for the first time since I left, read Sondheim's book (which was wonderful), and saw Deathly Hallows Part 1. Now I am back at school and it is less fun. D: Have to write something currently, putting it off, the usual. At least I will be home for break in a month.

Although! That Midsummer Night's Dream adaptation I was talking about a few months back? I finally finished it! :D :D :D I know some people or other expressed interest in seeing it when it was done, so once I make the edits I may post it here. All 27 pages of it. .___.;;

Spent basically the entirety of the last two days watching every Pixar movie with most of my friends. It was huge amounts of fun. I'm going to miss those guys. :(

As is common when watching Pixar movies, I kept noticing things that I hadn't the first however many times around, but the standout this time was that A Bug's Life is an extended take on the fable of the ant and the grasshopper. I really don't know why it took me this long to think of that. It's still cool though. :B I also cried at Jessie's backstory scene for the first time. It's the song. Stupid song. *bawls*

Now, a meme.

Reply and I'll give you four fandoms. You then have to make an entry writing about your favorite character from each fandom, and why.

Hetalia, Ookami-san, Kuroshitsuji, Lost )

Also, RIP Satoshi Kon.

So it looks like my old Neopets account will be deleted tomorrow because I can't remember the stupid fake birthday I signed up with. ;_; I know I haven't used that thing in years (mainly because I can't remember the stupid fake birthday I signed up with), but it was a huge thing in my life for a while. I even had friends there, which was unusual for me. I took screenshots so I'll remember it, but still. I'm gonna miss it. ;_;

Umm. On a less depressing note, I saw Scott Pilgrim yesterday. I think HG's reaction is better written than anything I could say, but to sum up: quite good. It's made me start reading the books as well; I'd be perfectly happy for the movie to be my canon, except that everyone in the books is so darn cute. So there's that then. 1/6 BOOKS COMPLETED

I've also started reading the Hunger Games. They do not disappoint. Captivating, original, well-written. It was hard for me to put the first book down to write this entry. Unless it somehow becomes terrible at some point later, I recommend it.

Still trapped in TV Tropes, as I have been for the past few days. (Someone send food.) It has not been in vain, though: I present you this video as my spoils. (IT'S FUNNY OK)

No Pokémon updates to speak of.

5. Character you’d like as your child )

Also, I just got back from Toy Story 3. Haven't cried that hard at a movie in many years. Thanks, Pixar, for reminding me I still have a heart.

So you know how I sometimes draw arts? Well, I finally drew a thing I am not all that ridiculously embarrassed by! Which is really rare for me. :D I post this because I don't think anyone knows I have a dA and concrit or other comments would be appreciated. So I guess I'll leave that there.

Umm not much else is happening in my life right now. I went to see a midnight screening of Troll 2 with HG Saturday night, which was my first time seeing the movie all the way through, so that was awesome. And by awesome I mean terrible. Last week we saw Dr. Horrible and next week we might see the Super Mario Bros. live-action movie. yaaaay

I never know what to post. I guess it is because my life's not that interesting. I should really post my thoughts on fandoms or something, but I guess that would require me to actively follow some fandoms. ughhh confused

The Chronicles of Narnia is actually a really good movie. I turned it on yesterday just to have something to watch while I ate lunch, but I ended up getting so engrossed that I watched the whole thing through to the end. I wonder if Prince Caspian is any good. Maybe I should check it out sometime.

Also, every time I read One Piece I feel like I've just consumed liquid awesome. And it's not even made of liquid. So that's how awesome it is.

Yeah, I'm definitely feeling better today than I was at this time last week. But I'm still tired. =_=;;

Also. You know about the earthquake in Haiti, I assume? Well, it seems people in fandom are raising money to help out, by means of an auction over at [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti. Of special interest is the art post, where you have the chance to get a commission from some very talented artists. I'm going to try and get together some money to bid, and I encourage you to do the same, if possible. It's for a good cause.

Things that have made me ridiculously happy in the past 24 (more or less) hours:
- Hetalia Day 2009 with my dork friends
- Seeing the Astro Boy movie immediately afterward with said dork friends
- Szayel's dub voice fffffff
- The answer to the New York Times acrostic (if you've done it you'll know why)

Also, I have been playing Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia a whole lot lately. (And I still have to actually pay Momo for it at some point. ._.;;) I really like this game. It's not a "true" Pokémon game, sure, but it's gotten me to care about the storyline and characters more than any other Pokémon game's done. And the writing is hilarious. If any Pokémon fans out there are looking for something to occupy themselves while waiting for HG/SS, you could really do a lot worse.

Speaking of Disney movies (we were doing that, right?): I know I'm a loser who only saw about four* of them during her childhood proper, and it's really sad that it took me until yesterday to watch The Hunchback of Notre Dame. But dang, that is a good movie. I think it just elbowed its way right in there under The Lion King as one of my favorite Disney movies. I mean, the music alone is excellent, but then you add in the characters and the plot and everything, and, wow. Suffice it to say that it's becoming my latest short-term obsession. And I need to acquire the soundtrack. OF COURSE I DON'T NEED TO TELL YOU GUYS THIS STUFF THOUGH BECAUSE YOU ALL HAD NORMAL CHILDHOODS. 8D (Although I have no idea how this movie got away with a G rating. IMO some of the stuff it deals with really isn't for kids. Which, y'know, is part of why I like it. But anyway.)

* Three if you don't count The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh as an actual movie.

Also, since I may not get a chance to post something later, I'm leaving again tomorrow for vacation. I'll be back next Tuesday. And then school starts. =_=

P.S. Apparently in Japanese, the @ sign is known as "naruto". This should not be so funny.

Ponyo's hot dad is so hot --

"How hot is he?"

Ponyo's hot dad is so hot that my bookmark folder for him contains only 8 fewer pages than my one for SPHFWLKaiB. Which is quite a feat. Although I don't generally go specifically looking for pictures of SPHFWLKaiB, and there are a lot more likely to be multiple pictures of him to a page. So I guess it's not that impressive. And yes, I know I am probably the only person who thinks Ponyo's hot dad is hot. Whatever. He has nice hair.

WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY IS GO SEE PONYO. It has a good dub.

First of all, OBAMA aww yeah.

Also, movie rec. I know the recommending movies is more HG's thing, but I gotta say, The Talented Mr. Ripley is a great one. If you like Death Note, odds are you'll like it. It's a psychological thriller about identity stealing and murder, with just enough gay romance to keep it interesting. (Bonus: one of the gay dudes is Jack Davenport.*) No, but it's not just gay dudes. I liked it. You will probably like it. RINGING ENDORSEMENT

* If you don't know who Jack Davenport is, picture this (or this) and add in a voice like Alan Rickman's. Be still my heart. @_@

And, what is this? I'm actually acknowledging my LJ-versary on my LJ-versary? :O Three years, hooray.
