AB CON REPORT AWAAAY
Apr. 20th, 2012 11:23 pmSo, I'm still trying to get back into the hang of this "posting regularly" thing. I'm not quite sure I've mastered it yet, but hey, anything more than one post every 3 months is progress for me. :B I was actually going to post yesterday as well, but I wasn't feeling so good and also I had to work on my final for my Fairy Tales and Gender class (a retelling of The Snow Queen with lesbians, woooo). But I am done with that now (the draft, anyway), and also I'm planning to start something that will hopefully get me posting a lot more from now on! But before I can tell you that story, I have to tell you this story.

It would probably sound better as something like "100 fandoms I am or have been in", but I never really leave a fandom, just kind of drift away from it for a while (which is what led me to think of the topic in the first place). I'm going to be posting them in alphabetical order, and I wanted to get the first one up tonight, but we'll see how much energy I have after writing this big long post. But if this works out, prepare yourselves for a whole lot more entries from me. I think you're going to like them. c:

Apr. 19th, 2011 05:30 pmWhoa, sorry about not updating for the past few days. On Sunday I had to catch up on all my homework that I didn't do while doing the play, and then yesterday I went home for the first night of Passover. Apparently my school has actual good Passover food, so I may starve less than usual! This is exciting. :D
The second performance went okay. We had a tougher audience and some more lines got messed up, but it was still pretty good. I just wish more people had come. :( There was, however, more concrete talk of doing this again next year, which would be so awesome. We're discussing doing As You Like It or maybe Shrew, but I'm still holding out hope for Twelfth Night. >_>

Saw two awesome movies in the past few days. The first was Summer Wars, which was amazing and touching (I actually cried, which... doesn't happen often). Despite what people say, it really isn't all that similar to Our War Game, apart from the ideas of a rogue AI and impending missiles. It came off as more of a homage than anything. I'm actually planning to get the DVD (and I don't own many DVDs either), if only to see how the dub came out. In conclusion, watch this movie. :B
The second was Atlantis: The Lost Empire, which I've been meaning to watch for forever. It turned out to be another one of those that I should have seen back when it came out, because I found myself being very fond of it. The characters! ♥ I found I could ignore the plot holes, but I did come out thinking that it should have been longer for the sake of character development. If we got to see more of the characters' interactions and growing friendships, I think it would have been a lot more powerful. And Milo should have totally gotten with Audrey. (Also, yeah, huge crush on Milo. He's not the trope picture for Adorkable for nothing. A socially awkward linguist with the voice of Marty McFly, come on, that's not fair.)
Also this meme's been kicking around the flist.
You know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

But that was before I started Investigations, by which I mean started watching over O.A.'s shoulder while she plays Investigations. And, well. Just. Figured I'd put that out there.
In other news, the Hare Hare Yukai dancers for this year's talent show have been finalized: Raven, Usa-chan, HG, O.A., and myself as Haruhi, Yuki, Mikuru, Kyon, and Itsuki, respectively. So yeah, some crossplay (both kinds), some stuff, it's all cool. If anyone is around around March or whatever you may want to check it out. Of course, that's assuming I can learn the dance by then. :P

On an unrelated note, O.A. and I have discovered the awesomeness that is Shakespeare slash. Hamlet/Horatio, Hamlet/Laertes, Romeo/Mercutio, Romeo/Benvolio, Romeo/Mercutio/Benvolio...so wrong and yet so darn right. (Also, Juliet/Tybalt. Not slash, but it is cousincest. :D) Most of the blame goes to the "Manga Shakespeare" GNs I bought this weekend. But what can I say? The guys are hot. (Glasses!Paris! *swoon)

Any Star Wars and/or Avenue Q fans may want to watch this video, set to "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist"; it is almost the perfect-est video ever. Warnings: racism (which oughtta go without saying) and one instance of profanity. And, in the video, a very odd couple. XD
And a plea: Does anyone still have their old Pokémon "2BA Master" CD? I've discovered that mine's got a big scratch right down the end of track 3 and the beginning of track 4, so I was wondering if I could copy those off someone else's CD. Thanks. ^_^

Quick American Idol opinions: I really like Sanjaya's hair, but he either needs to pick it up (a LOT) or get voted out. I like the two Chris's, too. Phil, like the similarly bald Chris Daughtry, seems destined to be a fan favorite. And Blake is just amazing.

All Naruto fans who read this LJ, THIS FANFIC. Read it. Yes, it's a high school AU, but it's a super well-done one. Here's a taste of what's inside: Naruto's the new kid, Yondaime's his father, Sasuke's an emo, Gaara's a British goth, Kimimaro's a Rastafarian, Zabuza's a gangster, and Orochimaru is the chorus teacher. And that's just the surface. It deals with some pretty sensitive subjects, too. Yeah. Read it.
O.A. and Usagi-chan need to stop giving me plotbunnies.How awesome is all the people with one normal eye and one magical eye teaming up? Pegasus, Kakashi and Moody? That would be a heckuva crossover! Ooh - maybe Ragetti can join too! Seriously, though, stop that.

Secondly: LJ can be useful after all. 'Cos I had to make a "patchwork" about myself for homework, so I just went to my info page and boom! There was all the stuff I liked! So I found pictures of them and made a poster. Yay LJ.
Thirdly: O.A. is Naruto. This is because she's Fawkes, and Fawkes was named after Guy Fawkes, and (the titular) V of V for Vendetta wears a mask of Guy Fawkes, and in the movie V was played by Hugo Weaving, and Hugo Weaving played Agent Smith in The Matrix, and in an AMV called "The Narutrix" the part of Agent Smith belonged to Naruto. Wow, this is like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. On a similar note, I'm Willy Wonka's dad (Wilbur Wonka, D.D.S.), which is really messed up.
Fourthly: You may have noticed that my journal now bears RENT-themed comment links, friends page title and subtitle. This is temporary. I was just bored of the ones I had.
Fifthly: Broadband is addicting. I need to do my homework.

abc_icons because I wanted to feel like I had more friends. And because it's a cool community. I had friended 10variations, but I had to unfriend it becuase all the posts were clogging my friendslist and the big pictures were murder on my dial-up. Still a good comm though.
Everyone was going off on me today at school because I drew a Gaara/Lee picture. Shad and Raven hated the thought of Gaara with anyone else, O.A. just can't imagine Lee with anybody (except me, apparently), and I'm not sure why Maddog didn't like it, but she didn't. Then there were the homophobes who were just "EWW BOYS KISSING." To quote HG, stupid homophobes. I dunno why everyone hates the ship. It's so dang cute! I think I've found a new OTP. (Yes, I'm aware that that makes three OTPs. Shut up.)
Relatedly, I think I need a Naruto guy. I mean, Shad has Gaara, Raven has Sasuke and Gaara, Maddog has Kakashi, Freeglader has Sasori, Rekka has Orochimaru, and O.A. has that Kimimario guy. (She used to have Kabuto, but Rekka made her give him up so she could kill him. Everyone seems to hate the poor helmet-head for some reason.) But I've never really felt strongly about any of them. O.A. thinks I like Lee, but I'm just not sure. He's adorable and all, but I don't know if he's the type of guy I want to spend the rest of my life with. Maybe I should listen to Rekka and define my parameters, but it really depends on the guy, dunnit.
In happier news, we got a printer. And I was in fact able to watch "Reality Trip", albeit a rerun. Most of it was pretty good, but dude, dei ex machinis are not your friend. Well, off to study some more. Or not.
